(Overview statement that summarizes the various answers to the fundamental question; Why Softalk magazine?)
The Project thread explains why the "how" of this project here is worth doing. Here, we explain that, at the core, the 4 volumes of Softalk magazine are a unique and significant, information-rich 'artifact' capturing the significant moment in our living history where technology innovation transformed everything, really fast. While slow by today's pace, this was the Big Bang of the technology-transformed world most of us live in today. Preserving, exploring, and extending this piece of our collective human history is the goal of the Softalk Apple Project.
TBD: Put 1980-84 in context for the young folks and to remind 'us' how time flies...
TBD: The rhythm of the emerging Apple microcomputer industry beat on a four-week cycle, issue-to-issue...
TBD: Today, so much content -- no matter its presentation media -- is digitally produced that we have web-ready archival source material from the "artifact's" creation. When Softalk magazine ruled, we still did magazines "the old-fashioned way" -- typsetting, paste-up, camera-ready ad submissions, graphic design with scissors and paste, etc.
TBD: Basic hallelujah chorus...
